Storm Doors & Screen Doors

Not many, if you choose the right ones. Storm doors have a reputation for getting in the way and blocking the view, but ours are designed to hold themselves open, and our full view options have glass from top to bottom. Our interchangeable full view storm doors even let you switch between full glass panels and full screen panels so you get all the benefits of storm doors and screen doors without the drawbacks.

The main difference is how they operate. Only 10 Series storm doors have our SmoothControl™ Plus close system which has built-in dual closers that are 50% stronger than standard dual closers.* 8 Series storm doors have a dual Simple Step closer instead. Both are smooth and easy to use, but if you want a more luxurious feel, choose 10 Series storm doors. Additionally, when it comes to full view interchangeable storm doors, only our 10 Series storm doors have our Quick Change system, which allows you to swap panels in under a minute. You can still swap panels with our other interchangeable storm doors, but not as quickly.

Yes! All our full view storm doors have glass that goes from top to bottom. With the interchangeable version, you can swap out the all-glass panel for a full-screen panel which gives you top-to-bottom fresh air. If you don’t need glass, our LuminAire® Retractable Insect Storm Door features a top-to-bottom screen that fully retracts out of sight when it’s not needed.

This depends on your needs, of course! Storm doors give your entryway the most versatility since they include both glass and screen in front of your door. The glass allows you to open your front door in colder or stormier weather while protecting your front door from the elements. The screen lets you open your entryway to fresh air without bugs. If you don’t think you need glass, our LuminAire® Retractable Insect Screen Door is your best option.

10 Series and 8 Series storm doors are the easiest to install, with installation usually taking just 45 minutes. Our other storm doors are still easy to install, but can take around 2 hours.

No. Screen doors don’t protect your entryway as well as storm doors because they don’t have glass (the glass is what puts the "storm" in storm doors). And if you don’t need glass and only want a screen, the better option is a screen door that fully retracts, like our LuminAire® Retractable Insect Screen Door. There is no hinge with this door. You can just retract the screen completely with a quick lift of your finger and step outside.
