Each year, we reflect on the people, craftsmanship and innovation that have shaped Andersen since the company was founded along the St. Croix River as Andersen Lumber Company in 1903. Along the banks of the St. Croix River, where Hans J. Andersen started his family business, one enduring symbol of that legacy continues to show our craftsmanship and customer commitment: the Glengarry boat.
The Glengarry has been part of Andersen’s history since it was commissioned by Fred Andersen, Han’s son and Andersen's second president, and christened in 1938. Built with a hull crafted in St. Paul and decks and cabins thoughtfully hand-crafted by Andersen team members, the vessel even features some of the earliest custom windows produced by Andersen.
While originally intended for family use, Fred Andersen’s definition of family extended well beyond relatives to include employees, customers, suppliers and friends. That same spirit remains at the heart with Glengarry excursions today.
Each year, the historic wooden boat hosts dozens voyages on the St. Croix River, bringing customers, employees and collaborators together to celebrate milestones, strengthen relationships and experience firsthand the place where Andersen’s story began.
Nearly 90 years after its maiden voyage, the Glengarry remains one of the few all-wood boats operating on the St. Croix River and a living symbol of Andersen’s commitment to craftsmanship, innovation and enduring relationships.
