Patio door FAQs answered
What is the warranty on Andersen patio doors?
Andersen has multiple product warranties that are some of the best in the industry. Here’s what you should know: They’re transferrable from owner to owner, the glass warranty is 20 years for standard units and 10 years for coastal units, and non-glass parts are warranted for 10 years. You can find the warranty for your product on our warranty.
Are French doors more expensive than sliding patio doors?
Yes, our French doors start at a higher price point than our sliding (gliding) patio doors. The reason French (hinged) doors start at a higher price point is because of the hardware they require. French doors have two panels that swing inward or outward to open. Adjustable hinges and multi-point locks are needed to support the weight of these fully operational door panels, allowing smooth operation without sagging over the life of the product. In contrast, sliding doors require comparatively simple rollers to enable the single operating panel to move side to side.
Beyond the product itself, there are a variety of factors that will affect the final price you pay for a door, including labor, location, and details specific to your project. To learn more, visit our pricing page.

What type of patio door is most energy efficient?
The A-Series is our best-performing product line, with a variety of glass coatings and the ability to add triple-pane glass to any door or window. But it’s not your only option. There are climate-specific selections you can make across all our product lines that will make your patio door more energy efficient. For example:
- Triple-pane glass is best in class. It’s the most insulating, and it’s increasingly necessary to meet the most stringent energy-efficiency standards, particularly in northern climates. Triple-pane glass is available as an option on many of our patio doors, including those offered through the 200 Series, 400 Series, E-Series, and A-Series product lines.
- Glass coatings help reflect the sun’s energy in a way that improves the energy efficiency of a home. We have options designed for the harshest climates, from desert to tundra, as well as Low-E4® coating, which works well in all climates and comes standard on all our windows and doors.

How much does it cost to install a sliding patio door?
Installation costs vary by location. The best way to understand the cost of installing a patio door in your locale is to talk with a local contractor. We can help you find a contractor in your area who specializes in our products.
Do French doors add value to a house?
They certainly can! In fact, realtors agree that Andersen products increase a home’s value by at least 15%*. So no matter if you decide on a French (hinged) door, sliding (gliding) door, or another one of our products, you can feel confident about your investment.

Is it better to have sliding or French doors?
It all depends on your needs, home style, and budget. In some cases, you might be looking for the largest opening. For this, a French door provides an airy double opening. In other cases, you might prefer a certain operation type, such as the space-saving opening a sliding door provides (stays flush with your wall). Or maybe you’re looking for the largest amount of glass, in which case you could even look beyond French and sliding doors and consider the big impact of a Folding Outswing Door.
