Wave House Project

Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey

To capture breathtaking views of the Raritan Bay and the Manhattan skyline in the distance, a pair of New Jersey homeowners designed a contemporary home on top of a hill in Atlantic Highlands. They lined the north side of Wave House with windows and gliding patio doors and brought in CMM Custom Homes, who relied on the versatility of Andersen® E-Series products.

The house features mostly casement windows and gliding patio doors, highlighted by a towering wall of windows in the stairwell. Jutting out next to the front door, the seven rows of windows are situated in a column that rises nearly three stories high.

The kitchen boasts countertop-to-ceiling casement windows. To make sure the countertop came right into the sill and the top of the window lined up with the ceiling, the builder framed out everything precisely before setting the windows. Throughout the house, they tried to use windows with mostly glass and thin sash, such as right above the garage door to achieve that much-desired contemporary look.

The size capabilities of E-Series patio doors make them a natural choice for contemporary home building. Three sets of gliding patio doors lead out to wrap-around porches on the main and top floors. The doors on the main floor are about 10' by 12' and those on the top floor are 7'8" by 11'10". Not only did the homeowners like the impressive size, colors and detailing of the E-Series patio doors, they had to be the right performance rating to endure the exposure the home faced from coastal conditions.
