Bringing new life to a historic coastal cottage
E-Series windows effortlessly preserve the charming character of this 1930s farmhouse, update the interior of the home, and spotlight stunning waterfront views.
When renovating this coastal Washington cottage, the challenge was to maintain the historic aspects of the home’s original design while revamping it for a new generation. SHED Architecture & Design chose to specify understated and elegant E-Series windows with narrow sightlines and white oak frames that accentuate the waterfront views. The white oak frames inside the home pair beautifully with the hardwood floors and add warmth to the white walls. These choices bring the team’s vision of a bright and open Nordic farmhouse aesthetic to fruition. From the exterior, tasteful black frames add a contemporary contrast to the traditional brick facade. The versatility of E-Series design gave the project a completely new, Scandanavian-inspired interior without erasing its historic character from the outside.

Nordic farm layouts were consulted when renovating the home, leading to a contemporary Scandanavian farmhouse look as seen in the clean and comfortable bedroom designs and E-Series windows with white oak frames.

The brick cottage is located on what was once an oyster farm. The renovations revitalized the 1930s architecture and history by fitting sleek new windows into existing openings.
