6 reasons why you should replace your windows

Replacing windows might not be at the top of your to-do list, but it can actually be a great opportunity to transform your home. New windows can add more light and fresh air, help you save money on your energy bills and give your home a whole new look.

Replacing windows might not be at the top of your to-do list, but it can actually be a great opportunity to transform your home. New windows can add more light and fresh air, help you save money on your energy bills and give your home a whole new look.

So, while you could put off replacing windows until they leak or even crumble in your hand (we’ve heard stories), there are other signs that indicate it’s time to get new windows.

1. They don't open properly

Not only is this frustrating, but it can also be a safety concern in the event of a fire. If your windows are hard to open or don’t stay open on their own, this indicates that something within the window may be warped or broken and that it’s time to replace.

2. You’re feeling a draft or extra chilly around your windows

If you’ve ever tried to get comfortable next to drafty windows, you know how frustrating it can be. Not only that, but drafty windows can also cause your energy bills to go up since your home has to work harder to maintain your desired temperature. An easy fix is looking for ENERGY STAR® certified windows, and ones specifically designed to filter UV light.

3. There’s fog between the glass

If you’re noticing fog between your window’s glass panes, this is a sign of seal failure and an indication you need to replace your windows. Older windows can lose their seal over time, making them less energy efficient.

Note: Condensation on the inside of your windows is a common issue related to moisture and is not a window failure.

4. You want to make your home healthier

Research has shown how important it is to get enough fresh air and natural light. This couldn’t be more true today with many of us still working from home. Expand your thinking beyond your current window types, sizes or placements. Ask yourself where you’d like more natural light and fresh air. Consider larger windows that make your home more open and better connected to nature.

5. You want to improve your view

This could be something as simple as increasing the size of your current windows, or as different as changing where your windows are located. If you’re really feeling bold, you could even create an impressive indoor/outdoor space with pass-through windows or sliding glass doors.

6. You want to boost your curb appeal

Windows let us see outside, but as a design element of our home, they also reflect who we are. Replacing faded or mismatched windows and upgrading them with new colors and modern designs cannot only enhance the look of your home, but it can also add value. In fact, upgrading your windows with Andersen can increase the value of your home by at least 10% according to realtors and homeowners*.
