"Whether you’re looking at the building, or out from it, you should believe the structure has grown out of the woods that surround it." This was Joe Patrick Robbins’ vision for the Steinberg Pavilion, home to the Perry-Mansfield School of Dance. To echo the look of the trees, he specified that dead timbers standing on the site be cut and used for the building’s posts and beams. He also designed asymmetrical divided lights for the windows near the ceiling to emulate leaves and smaller branches. "Now," the dancers tell us, "We feel like we are moving through the forest itself."
