Andersen's Presence at the Science Museum of Minnesota
Andersen Corporation is so much more than just windows and doors. Corporate Citizenship is a core value of ours, and we strive to improve lives and strengthen communities where we live and work. For example, did you know that we have a presence at the Science Museum of Minnesota?
The Kitty Andersen Youth Science Center (KAYSC) was created in 1996, and provides out-of-school programing for hundreds of underserved youth with the goals of building leadership skills, career readiness, and fostering confidence and appreciation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). It is located in the Science Museum of Minnesota. With middle school programs, high school programs, and even career and community connections, the KAYSC helps youth excel by focusing on teaching them practical technology skills, getting them involved and invested in community contribution and service, and preparing them for education and future careers.
Each year, the KAYSC organizes Project ME, a community event where youth utilize their artistic abilities and find new ways to use science and technology as tools for social change. To learn more about the Kitty Andersen Youth Science Center, visit: www.smm.org/kaysc.
Andersen Corporate Foundation has been a key supporter into developing the KAYSC into a flagship program. Just this year, the Foundation gave $200,000 in celebration of the KAYSC 20th Anniversary.
Mary Ann Steiner founded the KAYSC in 1996, and is passionate about the program. Her message is clear: “It seems like the world needs a lot of people who respect, admire, and understand science in every field. If young people gather a sense of how science, society and art all play together, we’re going to be a stronger society.”
