House 76-83 Woodbury, MN May 2006 Andersen Corporation teamed up with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity to sponsor as well as volunteer on an 8-plex in the Baily's Arbor development in Woodbury, Minnesota. Andersen volunteers worked one Saturday a month on this project and have seen it to its completion. House 75 Phoenix, AZ November 2006 Andersen Corporation blitz-built house #75 in Phoenix, Arizona in November 2006. This partnership with Valley of the Sun Habitat for Humanity included Andersen employees from Renewal by Andersen, Andersen Logistics as well as Andersen sales and service. House 73 Boston, MA 2006 This is the largest project that Greater Boston Habitat for Humanity has undertaken. When completed, the site on Blue Hill Avenue will have twenty-two new homes, 4,000 square feet of commercial space and a children's play area. Andersen Corporation donated the windows for this project. House 72 Whitman, Massachussetts November 2006 South Shore Habitat for Humanity partnered with Andersen Corporation to sponsor a single family home in Whitman, Massachussetts. House 70 and 71 Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity 2006 Andersen Corporation partnered with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity on what is now being called Midtown Exchange Condos. The renovation of the former Sears tower includes two Habitat homes. House 66-69 Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity 2006 Andersen Corporation teamed up with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity to sponsor four homes in need of rehabilitation on Goodrich Avenue in St. Paul. Andersen volunteers built decks, laid flooring, stained/installed trim, painted fences, landscaped and much more. At the January 27th dedication a homeowner and mother of two said, “I never thought I would actually own my own home, through Habitat I’ve been able to conquer that dream.” House 65 WomenBuild - Minneapolis, MN June 2006 For the sixth year, more than 30 Andersen women employees partnered with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity on the WomenBuild held in the Harrison Neighborhood of Minneapolis. This women-led initiative addressed the affordable housing crisis and showed that women from all backgrounds can join together and actively work raise awareness for the need for affordable housing for all families. House 61-64 Woodbury, Minnesota May 2006 More than 70 Andersen volunteers partnered with volume builder Centex Homes, another dedicated supporter of Habitat for Humanity to build four town homes in five days. The homes were built in Centex's Bailey's Arbor development in Woodbury, Minnesota. The homes were completed and ready for occupancy in just three weeks. House 51-60 Operation Home Delivery April 2006 Andersen Corporation sponsored the construction of 10 Habitat homes which were framed in wall sections and "kitted" in Minnesota and shipped to the Gulf Coast region as part of the rebuilding from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The framing was done at the Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity warehouse in Minneapolis, Minnesota and then wall sections and construction materials were shipped to Mobile, Alabama where they were assembled on waiting foundations. House 50 Luray, VA April 2006 Employees from EMCO Enterprises and Andersen's Bayport headquarters banded together for a week to build a Habitat for Humanity home. This is the second year in a row that Andersen enterprise employees have volunteered their time and skills to build a Habitat home in Luray, Virginia. The home is located two miles from EMCO’s plant and about two hours southwest of Washington, D.C. House 48-49 Des Moines, Iowa Fall 2006 The build will take place in the fall of 2006. House 43-46 Operation Home Delivery October 2005 Andersen volunteers joined Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity as it launched the Minnesota Operation Home Delivery campaign to help hurricane stricken families in the Gulf Coast region. Four homes were "kitted" and then packed into boxes and shipped on a barge via the Mississippi. The Today Show traveled to Minnesota to witness the launch of the barge and then followed it down the Mississippi to New Orleans where it arrived Thanksgiving Day. House 33-42 Woodbury, Minnesota October 2005 For a week, more than 150 Andersen volunteers framed a four-unit townhome and a six-unit townhome. The five-day blitz build was in a new residential development in Woodbury called Garden Gate, about 10 miles from Andersen’s headquarters. This build was the largest project Andersen volunteers had ever tackled in one week. House 32 San Francisco, California Fall 2005 – Summer 2006 Andersen teamed up with Habitat for Humanity in San Francisco to help build a single-family home in an area of the country where housing affordability is at an all-time low. The home is being built along with three other homes as part of the 12-home De Long Terrace project in San Francisco’s Ocean View neighborhood. House 31 Saint Paul, Minnesota Spring 2005 House 30 London, Ontario, Canada Spring 2005 Andersen associates from both KML and Dashwood divisions built their second home in London, Ontario as a part of the 100 Years /100 Homes project. Volunteers worked regularly on the home over the course of several weeks to complete this project. House 26-29 Printer's Row, Saint Paul, Minnesota April 2005 Andersen helped build four row houses in downtown St. Paul in a new urban neighborhood that offers affordable housing to this uniquely planned community thanks to Habitat. Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity is one of the leading affiliates looking at new ways to create affordable housing in urban areas. House 25 Luray, Virginia April 2005 Employees from EMCO’s Luray plant along with volunteers from Andersen’s headquarters in Bayport worked side-by-side for a week to blitz build Andersen’s first Habitat home in this community. The home is located two miles from EMCO’s plant and about two hours southwest of Washington, D.C. House 24 Atlanta, Georgia Spring 2005 Andersen’s sponsorship of a Habitat home in Atlanta is helping revitalize an entire community—and providing one more family with an affordable, decent home in which to live. The home was built in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of southwest Atlanta. House 19-23 Germain Landing, Saint Paul, Minnesota September 2004 This was the second time Andersen joined forces with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity to build five homes in five days. This blitz build format began with a capped foundation on Monday, and ended with homes framed, roofed and sided in just five days. The first five-home build (see "Homes 1-5") was one-story construction. This time around, Andersen employees built five two-story homes, one a side-by-side duplex, in just five days. McGough Construction partnered with Andersen on this project and provided a great deal of volunteer support – not to mention access to great tools! More than 150 employees from Andersen and McGough volunteered over the course of the five days and in the end, a new neighborhood was formed. House 18 - WomenBuild Newport, Minnesota Summer 2004 More than 60 women volunteers from Andersen Corporation participated in Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity’s annual WomenBuild. The concept behind this program is to engage all-women construction crews in building a home. The purpose is to raise awareness about the issue of affordable housing and to create a unique construction environment that encourages women to volunteer in a non-traditional role. House 17 Menomonie, Wisconsin May - September 2005 Employees from Andersen’s assembly plant in Menomonie volunteered for the first time with the Chippewa Valley Habitat for Humanity to build a one-level, handicapped accessible home for an area family. Volunteers raised the house during a weeklong blitz build and then worked through the summer and fall to complete the home. House 16 - Shareholders Build Hudson, Wisconsin April 2004 Andersen’s first-ever Shareholder Build partnered a group of shareholders from the company with Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a family in Hudson, Wisconsin. During a five-day blitz build, the group, including many Andersen retirees, completed the exterior of the home including framing, siding, windows and doors. House 15 Saint Paul, Minnesota Federal employees build In a unique partnership with Federal employees in the state of Minnesota, Andersen sponsored this home on Ravoux Street, not far from the Minnesota State Capitol. Andersen’s sponsorship of the home allowed the tremendous volunteer base of Federal employees to rally together around a single cause and show solidarity for addressing the issue of affordable housing in our communities. House 14 Denver, Colorado May 2004 Andersen helped to completely remodel and rehabilitate one of the four two-bedroom townhomes in the metro Denver area. This building is part of a larger 18-unit townhouse complex also renovated by Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver. These homes are located in Lakewood, Colorado just outside of the city of Denver. For eight weeks, volunteers updated the exterior of the homes and built out the interiors to provide 18 like-new townhomes to Habitat families. House 13 Des Moines, Iowa October 2003 – Spring 2004 A new home was built at 1660 Emma Street in Des Moines over the fall and winter months with the help of many Andersen employees from the EMCO door manufacturing plant. A single mother and her teenage son moved into their new two-bedroom home after building alongside many of the volunteers. EMCO employees demonstrated their commitment and tenacity as they braved cold, snowy weather to get the job done. House 12 Chicago, Illinois September 2003 – April 2004 Andersen partnered with the Energy & Environmental Building Association (EEBA) and Habitat for Humanity of Lake County in Chicago to build an energy efficient home for a Chicago-area family. Construction on this unique home was featured at the 2003 EEBA annual conference where attendees had the opportunity to view what they learned at the conference under real building conditions. Andersen and other local Chicago volunteers helped complete the home. House 11 London, Ontario, Canada September 13 – October 11, 2003 Andersen Corporation employees from the KML and Dashwood facilities volunteered over four weeks building a side-by-side duplex on Julia Court in London, Ontario. One hundred employees took part in making home ownership a reality for another family through Habitat for Humanity. House 10 Detroit, Michigan September 6-13, 2003 Habitat Detroit’s Blitz Build ’03 was a weeklong build of 16 single-family, safe and affordable houses in the Tri-Centennial Village of the Core City Neighborhoods on Detroit’s near Westside, just west of the old Tiger Stadium. Forty-seven Andersen employees from the local sales and logistics teams helped build the home sponsored by Andersen. Bob Layne, house leader and Ford Motor Co. employee, had great praise for the Andersen volunteers: "Every crew leader commented to me that the key to the successful build was the quality of the Andersen personnel who volunteered to help build this house. I hope that all the volunteers enjoyed their involvement and have gained something from their experience. If they learned something about constructing a house, that's great. I also hope the experience made a difference in their life for they have made a difference in the core cities neighborhood and have given hope to this family." House 9 Columbus, Ohio October 1, 2003 – May 2004 A single dad and his two children moved into a new home in 2004 because of the unique partnership between Andersen, Crane Plastics, Habitat for Humanity and the Columbus, Ohio Public School District. Through this partnership, high school students worked on the house during the week getting hands-on experience through the supervision and training provided by staff and teachers. On Saturdays, volunteers from Andersen and Crane Plastics continued where the students left off. Through the construction of the home, a group of 25 students learned skills in a variety of carpentry, plumbing and electrical classes. House 8 - 2003 TwinCities WomenBuild Hastings, Minnesota September 2003 Andersen was pleased to sponsor Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity’s third-annual WomenBuild home. Volunteers from throughout the area came together to build this home for a family in the Hastings community. House 7 - 2003 Andersen WomenBuild Newport, Minnesota September 2003 For the third year, more than 60 Andersen women employees joined forces for three days in September to build a home with Twin Cities Habitat using an all-women volunteer crew. This women-led initiative addressed the affordable housing crisis and showed that women from all backgrounds can join together and actively work to solve this problem. House 6 Indianapolis, Indiana June 2003 Located on the east side of Indianapolis, Andersen joined other corporations in building one of six homes on this site. Andersen associates were pleased to be volunteering alongside the "Tiger Team," a group of retired executives from Indianapolis who volunteer regularly with Habitat. House 1-5 Ames Avenue, Saint Paul, Minnesota June 2-6, 2003 Andersen Corporation’s 100 Years/100 Homes program with Habitat for Humanity launched June 2-6 in St. Paul, Minn. with a five-home, five-day Blitz Build. More than 150 Andersen associates worked side-by-side with families contributing over 6,000 volunteer hours during the week to raise the houses. The five homes were built on a parcel of land on St. Paul's East Side near White Bear Ave. and Maryland Ave., creating a new neighborhood that will eventually total 24 homes. These five homes were built in five days - from slab to finished siding, windows and shingles. The interiors of the homes were completed durning the fall of 2003. |
