Energy Star Windows & Doors

Andersen is proud to be an ENERGY STAR® partner, offering energy efficient replacement windows and doors that help save on heating and cooling costs and create a comfortable home year-round. Our energy efficient windows and doors include High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass and optional High-Performance™ Low-E4® SmartSun™, High-Performance™ Low-E4® PassiveSun™, and High-Performance™ Low-E4® Sun glass, making it easy to save both money and energy.

We publish standard energy-efficiency performance ratings on all our products ratings that are consistently among the best in the industry. Homes with Andersen® windows and doors can dramatically help reduce their heating and cooling costs. These guidelines are based on the heat gain and loss of each product in various regions of the country.

Certification and Leadership

   National Fenestration Rating Council

The National Fenestration Rating Council® (NFRC) is a non-profit organization that provides fair, accurate and credible energy performance ratings for windows and doors. The best way to compare energy efficient windows and patio doors is to look at their NFRC labels. NFRC certification and labeling is required to qualify for ENERGY STAR.

ENERGY STAR® - U.S.

ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE) that identifies and promotes energy efficient products in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. New ENERGY STAR qualified windows can help reduce your energy bill up to 15 percent. Estimated savings vary from region to region depending on current heating and cooling costs and are generally greatest where there are hot summers, cold winters or both. In addition, ENERGY STAR qualified windows and doors do more than just lower energy bills – they deliver more comfort, create less condensation, and protect your valuables from sun damage better than conventional clear-glass double-paned alternatives.

Many of our products meet the stringent energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. ENERGY STAR Windows Program Version 5.0.

ENERGY STAR® - Canada

ENERGY STAR - Canada is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Natural Resources Canada. ENERGY STAR - Canada is a voluntary arrangement between Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency and organizations that manufacture sell or promote products that meet the ENERGY STAR levels of energy performance.

ENERGY STAR® qualified products help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines that are endorsed by the Government of Canada.

ENERGY STAR® - U.S.

The requirements for the U.S. ENERGY STAR Windows Program Version 5.0 are shown below. The product performance ratings for windows for U-Factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient vary depending on the climate zone. The product performance ratings for doors are the same across the United States and vary depending on the glazing percentage. For glass patio doors, the > ½-Lite criteria are used.

ENERGY STAR® - Canada

The requirements for the ENERGY STAR Canada Program released in October 2010 are shown below. The product performance ratings for windows and doors vary by climate zone. A window or door must meet one of two compliance paths to qualify. ENERGY STAR Canada requires that in addition to a U-Factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) that a product also have an Energy Rating (ER) number. The ER number is calculated by combining a products U-Factor, SHGC and air infiltration rating into one number. The higher the number the more Canada ENERGY STAR zones the product is likely to qualify for. The Energy Rating (ER) value is calculated using a formula that balances a product's U-value with its potential solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) and its airtightness. The ER scale was recently modified so that all products now have a rating of between 0 and about 50. (Under the previous rating scale, it was possible for a product to have a negative ER number.) The higher the ER number, the better the product's thermal performance. The ER number favors a higher product SHGC.
