To showcase the new Andersen® exterior trim system, we launched a contest for architects and designers earlier this year challenging them to submit a building design using Andersen exterior trim as a building component.
Entrants were required to submit an original design that included specification of the Andersen exterior trim system for Andersen A-Series or 400 Series products. After judging the entries, we send our congratulations to the following four designs selected by our judges:
Patrick Szurpicki, Studio Build, Alhambra, CA
Working to blend a new construction family home with an existing restored 1920’s-era barn, this farmland property in northwest Iowa gave architect Patrick Szurpicki the perfect opportunity to try out the Andersen Exterior Trim system. The product proved to be the perfect bridge element between styles that are both old and new.
Dwight Miller, Dwight Miller - Residential Design, Ltd., East Petersburg, PA
Dwight Miller’s clients wanted a home design incorporating the simple characteristics of local farmhouses but with an exterior as low maintenance as possible. Andersen A-Series double-hung and casement windows, along with patio doors were chosen. In addition to surrounding the windows and patio doors, the Andersen exterior trim system was used around entry doors in the front and service areas of the home. Even though the home is still under construction, the impact to the home’s character is obvious.
Jeffrey Funke, Funke Architects, Chicago, IL
Serosun Farms is a sustainable community near Chicago, Ill. Serosun includes 100 homes blending peaceful, pastoral living with modern convenience. The development’s objective is to create timeless homes with an eye towards quality and a goal of utilizing the latest in building technologies to promote better stewardship of the land. Andersen A-Series products are the perfect choice for the community, and were featured on the first model home submitted for this contest by Jeffrey Funke of Funke Architects
David Waller, Waller Enterprises, Virginia Beach, VA
With miles of beaches, Virginia Beach has more than earned its reputation as a resort city. The area blends historic sites with modern culture and includes surfing contests, state parks and universities. David Waller of Waller Enterprises created a design for two new single family beach style cottages at the north end of the resort city. At the owner’s direction, he wanted a classic look accommodating modern amenities. Waller specified a cedar shingle exterior, Andersen windows and Andersen exterior trim with cornice headers to top them off.
Contest winners receive a trip to Minnesota for an architectural tour of the Twin Cities and a tour of Andersen Corporation’s main manufacturing facility in Bayport, Minn. Each winning design built on or before May 30, 2013 will receive Andersen exterior trim to complete the project; an approximate retail value of $7,000. View the wide variety of trim styles and colors available at www.andersenexteriortrim.com.
Congratulations to our winners, and thank you to the many entrants!
