LivingHomes, a developer of modern, sustainable prefabricated homes, recently unveiled a new model called the C6. While modular homes are nothing new, the C6 is notable in that it was designed with comfort, affordability and energy efficiency in mind.
The price – around $179,000 for a 1,232 square-foot 3 bedroom 2 bath home – is half the cost of other current LivingHome models, bringing the concept of green pre-fab within reach of many. The C6 is also the easiest and fastest LivingHome to build. Built by Cavco, a nationwide leader in systems building of prefabricated homes, the C6 can be fully constructed in less than two months and installed on-site in one day. And, the C6 is also the first production home designed to achieve LEED Platinum® certification. So it should be no surprise that these homes feature Andersen® 100 Series windows and patio doors.
Attendees at the Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) 2012 Conference in Long Beach, California, were treated to an up-close look at a C6 model when LivingHomes CEO Steve Glenn, sustainability guru William McDonough, and Make it Right Foundation executive director Tom Darden hosted a lunch February 29, 2012 at the C6 home temporarily set up for viewing during the conference.
The design was inspired by Joe Eichler, a developer whose modern vision was seen throughout California residential construction in the 50s and 60s. The C6 pays homage to Eichler by organizing the flow around a courtyard accessible through a variety of openings and an open floor plan that supports outdoor/indoor lifestyles.
Keeping the design affordable, meeting the project’s sustainability goals, and connecting to Eichler’s distinctive look and feel, led the design team to the only true window option: Andersen® 100 Series windows and patio doors.
Featuring Low-E glass and built using Fibrex® material, these windows meet ENERGY STAR® qualifications in all climate zones. And, because Fibrex material combines the strength and durability of wood with the low maintenance features of vinyl, the 100 Series product line continues to enhance a home’s style many years after installation.
The 100 Series helps keep the purchase price affordable and the performance over the life of the home helps keep the costs of ownership low, making the view out those windows all the greener. For complete information about the C6, visit www.livinghomes.net.
