This presentation addresses the role of windows in commercial and residential building energy performance, and window integration with key sustainable design strategies. Categories common in sustainable building rating systems are identified and the contribution of windows defined. Third party certification of window performance, materials and environmental quality characteristics to support sustainable design is outlined.
When you complete this course you will have a better understanding of:
- The differences in energy use patterns in commercial and residential buildings.
- The importance of computer modeling to evaluate alternatives and integrate windows in the design process to improve building performance.
- The role windows can play in supporting design strategies in key categories of energy, materials and indoor environmental quality common in sustainable design rating guidelines.
- The types of third party material and performance certifications that are applicable to windows.
